Job overview

Teacher of Music, Westminster

PIMLICO ACADEMY IS DRIVEN BY THE BELIEF THAT EVERY YOUNG PERSON CAN SUCCEED, GIVEN THE CHANCE.

(0.6 FTE)

Performing Arts is one of the Academy's specialisms and we now have an opportunity for an outstanding and dynamic teacher to join our successful, popular and well-resourced music department. You will join a team of highly committed and experienced professionals and will be expected to teach across the full age and ability range. In addition to curricular teaching the department has an extensive extra-curricular programme in which you will be expected to play an active role. This programme includes a wide variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles, as well as 'Music Tracks', a successful and well-established initiative that sees all year 7 students learn an orchestral instrument; the students have the opportunity to continue into year 8 and beyond as part of our 'scholars' programme. A large proportion of the school benefits from extra-curricular instrumental tuition and the ability to support this aspect of our provision would be advantageous. We also hold regular concerts, participate in festivals and competitions, work collaboratively with the drama department to stage musicals, and undertake foreign tours.

In 2012, the Academy implemented a knowledge-based curriculum designed with the aim of developing culturally literate young adults who have the knowledge and skills to progress successfully onto GCSE study and beyond. The music curriculum includes study of music theory, musicianship and history, as well as performance and composition. At GCSE and A level, where we offer Music and Music Technology, we study Edexcel courses.

The Academy was rated outstanding in its most recent inspection and is determined to be one of the very best schools in London, state or private. We are developing a highly academic culture where the highest standards are expected of staff and students. It is a dynamic and demanding school with a happy, cohesive and purposeful environment. Both students and staff are exceptionally well supported.

We are seeking someone with excellent subject knowledge who can combine academic rigour and achievement with enjoyment of the subject. If you have energy and passion for your subject and innovative teaching and learning strategies we would like to hear from you.

Applications from both NQTs and more experienced teachers are welcome.

About Pimlico Academy

Pimlico Academy is a mixed ability non-fee paying school for 11-19 year olds. The academy opened in September 2008 and is sponsored by Future Academies. The academy became an all-through school, 3 to 19, from September 2013 when the first Reception class started at our on-site primary school, Pimlico Primary.

The academy has improved rapidly since taking over from the predecessor school and was judged good by Ofsted in December 2021. The percentage of students achieving 5 GCSE 9 -4 grades with Maths and English has improved from 36% to 69%. 90% of students achieved A*-C at A Level in 2016.

The distinguishing factor at Pimlico is our determination to provide pupils with the same standard of education that is on offer at the best independent schools and to ensure all pupils leave the academy as culturally literate young adults. The academy’s sponsor has established The Curriculum Centre to develop and implement a knowledge-based curriculum. We have an excellent Raising Aspirations programme, extensive extra-curricular provision, academic intervention tutors and a wide array of support to enable students to reach their potential.

We employ only very well-qualified staff who are committed to knowledge-rich education and embody a determination to ensure every pupil at Pimlico is hardworking, articulate, literate, ambitious, independent, confident, courteous and compassionate.
