Job overview

We are seeking to appoint full time teachers of Psychology for January 2015.

This is a main scale (£21,469- £31,422) or Professional Standards Payments Range (£34,042- £36,642) post within the National Sixth Form College's Salary Structure, and an additional London Fringe area allowance of £964 per annum is paid.

The Department of Psychology forms part of the Faculty of Humanities and the current staffing complement consists of 3 full-time members of staff.

The department has grown considerably over the last 5 years and approximately 300 students are currently studying AS /A2 Psychology (AQA).

The Psychology Department is located in our Tercentenary teaching block which provides excellent teaching and learning facilities with interactive whiteboards and appropriate software in every classroom and access to designated IT suites. Teachers in the Department have their own workspaces in the purpose-built office accommodation within the teaching block, and most teaching staff are provided with their own laptop.

There is a strong culture of student support within Psychology and the College as a whole, with specialist support and revision days offered to all students. Students studying within the Psychology Department are encouraged to make full use of department resources including laptops, cameras and video equipment in completion of course-related activities such as presentations, experiments and college-wide observations. In addition, students have access to the whole of the well-resourced College IT facilities, the Department Moodle site and the Learning Resources Centre has an extensive collection of subject-related resources and maintains a subscription to a range of Department related resources.

The department has a strong tradition of extra-curricular activities which have included visits to London Zoo, partner Universities (e.g. Roehampton, Royal Holloway) and revision conferences in London. Visiting guest speakers have delivered talks on such subjects as Clinical, Forensic, Criminological, Sport and Neuroscience topics. A large number of students undertake EPQ projects in Psychology with subjects including; Mass murderer profiling, Aggression, Media Influences, Empathy, etc. and a number submit entries for the Cambridge University AS Level Essay Competition. Traditionally a significant number of students proceed to first degrees in Psychology and related subjects.
