Job overview

Teacher of Science, Cornwall

A number of well qualified colleagues are sought to join our outstanding faculty of Science. We seek the very best teachers who can consistently teach good or better lessons. You will be able to enthuse and motivate our students with your passion for Science and creative teaching, presence and personality. Applications would be considered from all Science specialisms or combinations of Sciences.

Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty. Results are outstanding and students make excellent progress. In 2013 we achieved our best ever results at GCSE - 93% achieving at least one Grade C or above in Science; whilst 77 % achieved at least a Grade C in two or more Science subjects. These results indicate that the progress shown by students in Science is in the top 3% of the country. Members of the very supportive team are totally committed to ensuring successful outcomes for our students.

At post-16 we currently offer A-level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science; which offers an excellent opportunity to teach post 16 students for those who want this experience. Take-up at post 16 is excellent with 75 talented students indicating they wish to study at least one Science subject with us next year. The ability to teach to A level is helpful but not a pre-requisite for the post. There is the opportunity to teach A Level and for those who are less confident the introduction is phased and well supported.

Camborne Science & International Academy is the top performing State School in the County for 5 A-C GCSEs including English and Mathematics at 72%. We are a friendly, dynamic and innovative school in the heart of beautiful West Cornwall, which affords a high quality of life. Our most recent whole school Ofsted (February 2012) described us as a "good school with many outstanding features".

Our school has developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China, South Korea, Canada and Australia. Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges. In July 2013 the Science faculty arranged several days of collaborative activities for over 150 international participants, where their passion and enthusiasm for Science could be harnessed. The successful appointees will have the opportunity to participate in this amazing and unique programme.

Applications from experienced colleagues and or Newly Qualified Teachers are equally welcome. We have an outstanding NQT Induction programme to offer support to new staff. The person appointed will be given full support in their career development as we believe that development of staff is a key aspect in raising standards for our students.
