Required with effect from 1st January 2015 until 31st August 2015, a motivated and well-qualified specialist graduate teacher with the vision to deliver high standards of teaching and learning in Science. Furthermore, you will make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at the Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across Key Stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

Teaching throughout KS3 and 4, you will be able to excite and challenge learners to make rapid progress whilst demonstrating excellence in teaching and learning.We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners' individual achievements with innovative ideas to build on existing good practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a large and dedicated team of teachers in the Science department which is highly regarded, successful and thriving with over 300 students in KS3, over 240 taking GCSE courses and over 150 taking A level courses.The Science department currently consists of a team of 10 teachers and four technicians and is extremely well resourced having at its disposal six specialist laboratories and two general Science laboratories.

Science is taught to all students in Years 7 and 8 and teaching of KS4 starts in Year 9. At KS4, the most able scientists study GCSE Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) with the remainder studying the Edexcel Modular GCSE Science and Additional Science courses. In the Sixth Form there are well-established and successful courses at AS an A level in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

This post carries a short-term housing licence and you can expect to:

  • Work in a well resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

Salary will be in accordance with the Guernsey Main Professional Scale £28,534 - £40,972 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment.
