Job overview

Science Talent

Our latest OFSTED report says we're "A good School in all aspects" and we're proud of this but know we can still make improvements. We're looking for a new face to join our Science department who will further boost our students' academic achievement and contribute to us becoming outstanding.

It's quite obvious that we're looking for a Teacher of Science so lets not spend too much on that but it's not just any old teacher we're after, it's the really passionate and obviously excited ones we're after, as we wont get to outstanding any other way.

Our door's open to any talented Science teacher so if you're highly qualified or fresh out of your graduation gown, we offer a big and supportive department keen to offer support whenever you need it.

At the risk of sounding big headed, our facilities are excellent - we have a farm which helps to promote conservation work, green issues, environmental science and curriculum enrichment through forensic sciences and dissection. We also have a terrific programme of trips, visits and extra-curricular activities.

To be successful, we will expect you to have:

  • Drive, determination and spirit
  • Organisation skills that allow you to get the most from every student
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding lessons
  • Enthusiasm for passing on your knowledge to young people
  • Communication skills and confidence to deliver teaching and learning
  • An unflappable demeanour
  • The desire to overachieve in an environment that rewards excellence

If you're committed to a term already, we're happy to wait for you if you're a real cracker so don't feel this is an opportunity missed if timings don't quite work out.

In return, you will enjoy a unique working environment in the heart of the Weald of Kent, discounts and offers with Kent Rewards and ongoing training and support to help you excel and develop your career as a teacher. All of our teaching staff are provided with an iPad and there's an independent nursery based on-site should your littluns need to be accommodated.

You'll need to impress us from the outset so please do not apply if you're not prepared to invest in your application. It's a competitive market out there and we want to know what it is that makes you the one we should invest in. Detail your successes in your covering letter and get us excited about you.

Find out more about us and the opportunity we have at www.homewood-school.co.uk.

Closing date: 30th September 2014, however applications will be considered on receipt.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all members of the community. Homewood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.

About Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre

Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre is a mixed 11 – 18 wide ability school with Academy status with 2,100 students including 350 in the Sixth Form. We are part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust working in collaboration with local primary schools serving the Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The school is situated on the edge of Tenterden and enjoys a large semi-rural site overlooking open countryside.

Homewood has excellent facilities for all its students and our specialisms in Performing Arts, Applied Learning and the Rural Dimension underpin our approaches to learning which are designed to raise achievement across the whole student body. We aim to maintain and develop the cultural aspirations of the school community in line with our priorities of “belonging” and “respect” and offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities in all subject areas. This also extends into the local community through partnerships across primary, secondary and higher education sectors as well as non-educational community partners.

Homewood provides a secure and caring learning environment in which all students can flourish and succeed. It is a school renowned for its support for students’ wellbeing. Consideration and respect for each other is central to our work.  We are immensely proud of the achievements of our students and are committed to enabling all to reach for individual excellence.
