MAKE A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

Things are changing for the better for education in Workington and you could be part of these exciting new developments. Southfield Technology College and Stainburn School & Science College are secondary schools with a joint Sixth Form. Both schools were placed into special measures in November last year.

Now, led by an inspirational Executive Headteacher with a proven track record and strong and supportive leadership teams, the schools are on a journey of sustained improvement. There is a completely new building planned which will eventually replace both existing schools.

Working as part of a newly formed and dynamic team you could play your part in a success story for education in Workington. There is also the opportunity to participate in an outstanding CPD programme. Add into the mix the schools' location in Workington, right on the  edge of one of the most beautiful national parks in the UK, and you could change your own life for the better too.

The following opportunity is available for September 2014. Teachers may be required to work across both schools but the substantive appointment will be made at one of the schools.

 Ofsted

Inspectors found that the efforts of Workington Academy’s leaders to promote equality and diversity across the school are “remarkable,” and they have been effective in raising standards and outcomes for students.

According to the report, “Pupils feel safe in school and bullying is extremely rare.” It depicts the work of all staff to keep pupils safe from harm as “exemplary,” and describes their work with external agencies as “meticulous.”  The inspection team also recognised that “the overwhelming majority of pupils behave well during learning”. Both Leadership and Management and the Sixth Form were graded as good.
