Teacher (Primary trained, music specialism) wanted for an 'Outstanding' special School
TreeHouse School in North London provides a vibrant education for children and young people from 4 - 19 with a diagnosis of autism. Each pupil has a personalised curriculum that includes the National Curriculum and is delivered by a multi-professional team using teaching approaches underpinned by the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Music Teacher (0.5 FTE, Temporary for maternity cover): Working within our multi-professional teams you will teach group and some individual lessons for our students, support staff across the school to give our pupils opportunities to access music, supervise our Performing Arts specialist tutor and other visiting professionals as required and lead on further developing our music curriculum.
You need:
- Successful experience teaching music
- Skills, knowledge and competency in music
- Experience of assessing pupil progress in music and using data to inform planning, target setting and reporting
- Secure understanding of Health and Safety requirements in a music teaching context
- To show commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Some experience of working with children with SEN
- High expectations of our pupils and a commitment to inclusion
- A willingness to learn about and apply the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to your outstanding teaching
- A commitment to work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes SaLT, OT, ABA Consultants and Qualified Teachers
- Experience of leading and supporting the development of colleagues.

Our curriculum is tailored to each pupil’s unique qualities, specific needs, and individual starting points. In this way, we can set accurate targets for progress.
In our individualised learning programmes, we assess each pupil extensively and consider their strengths and what they find more challenging. Our curriculum is creative and flexible, using our natural environment to extend pupils’ learning. You are as likely to see maths being practised in the shop, the community or the garden as you are in the classroom.
