Are you a successful teacher in special education or mainstream who wants to develop expertise and gain a Post Graduate Diploma in Special Education. Whitefield Schools and Centre is an outstanding special school which seeks to recruit teachers who are ready to make a serious commitment to professional development in SEN.

Whitefield Schools and Centre and Joseph Clarke School are part of the Whitefield Academy Trust. Whitefield Schools and Centre is one of the largest special schools in Europe with an international reputation for expertise, resources and research reflected in its status as a Teaching School. Joseph Clarke School is for visually impaired and complex needs pupils. The Schools are situated in the North East of London within the Borough of Waltham Forest, but catering for pupils who come from many different Local Authorities. There are more than 425 pupils on roll with a wide range of Special Educational Needs. In order to successfully address the learning needs of our students we operate as four Specialist Schools catering for:

  • Sensory Impairment and Learning Difficulties (3 - 19) - Margaret Brearley School
  • Communication and Interaction Primary (3 - 11) - Peter Turner Primary School
  • Communication and Interaction Secondary (11 - 19) - Niels Chapman Secondary School
  • Visual Impairment and Complex Needs (3 - 19) - Joseph Clarke School

The Teaching School organises training for school staff, other professionals and offers Schools Direct placements. It hosts an Outreach Service which supports pupils across 4 Local Authorities. It also houses an excellent Library.

  • existing special school teachers who want to advance their expertise in preparation for a leadership role.
