Teacher with Specialism in English

Posted 07/02/2012

Take action to make our new special school very special indeed.

Sometimes, the educational challenges faced by vulnerable young people can be so complex they need to be approached in a different kind of way. Action for Children does this through diverse and often ground-breaking projects across the UK to help them turn their lives around. Projects like the Parklands Campus in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, a new and innovative special school which offers 52-week residential, fostering and outreach services for secondary age young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. Launched in September 2011, our school aims to help young people build positive relationships and achieve their full potential through a holistic approach to care and education. Your teaching talents could help to make it a success from the very beginning.

Improving our young people's reading and general literacy can go a long way towards helping them address their problems, and your experience in doing just that with BESD pupils will make a big difference. You'll be teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4, and ideally you'll also be able to offer a second subject. You'll certainly need to bring the kind of passion that makes you keen to offer enrichment activities as part of an extended school day.

For this post a successful background in working with challenging students in either mainstream or special schools would be an advantage.

And while you're taking action for children, we'll be taking action to make sure you're fulfilled, with ongoing support and training.

Action for Children. Whatever it takes. For as long as it takes.
