The Department wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow to teach one or more core geophysical subjects in the classroom to undergraduates, to the highest international standards and geophysical methods in the field to undergraduate students.
The Teaching Fellow will make an active contribution to the delivery and administration of the undergraduate degree in Geophysics, including lecturing in courses in mathematics, physics, computer programming and/or surface processes, organising and contributing to geophysical fieldwork, examining and tutoring in geophysics, and contributing to the planning, admissions and operations of the undergraduate degree programme.
Subject expertise within one or more core areas of geophysics, and a degree (or equivalent) in a geoscience or relevant science subject are essential. For appointment at the higher levels, a postgraduate degree (or equivalent), together with experience in teaching or professional experience within the geosciences, are also essential. For appointment at Principal Teaching Fellow, a substantial record in teaching of demonstrably high quality is essential.
The Fellow should be an excellent communicator, with the ability to convey ideas and concepts clearly and effectively to undergraduates, both within the classroom and within the field. Existing teaching and professional experience need not necessarily be within the university sector. Teaching Fellows are not expected to undertake subject-specific research as part of their duties, but otherwise they will act as academic members of the department.
