About York College

We are a “Good” college (OFSTED 2008) striving to be an “Outstanding College” by 2012. We are making excellent progress - in terms of our exam results, we are one of the top ten highest scoring Further Education Colleges in the country [Source: Times Educational Supplement 15th January 2010 – exam result statistics produced by the Department for Children, Schools and Families].

Some Facts

  • We are one of the major providers of education and training in Yorkshire and Humberside with an annual budget of c£30M.
  • We are financially strong, being rated “Grade A”.
  • In August 2007 we moved into a new purpose built campus on an attractive and accessible site (adjacent to the A64 and “Park and Ride”) on the southern edge of the City of York. At £60 million this is one of the largest single re-build programmes anywhere in the country and is a flagship for the sector nationally. OFSTED rate the college an “outstanding environment for teaching and learning”.
  • In 2010/2011 we have 6,695 students, of which 4,269 are full time. In addition we have 601 on Higher Education programmes and 136 International students. Support for learners, in the form of a Learning Centre, guidance and counselling and individual support, is a strong feature of the College.
  • We offer courses across the full range of Further Education provision, with the exception of Land Base Studies. The College has an extensive range of employer engagement activities. Strong links have been built with the business community over many years through our commercial and tailored training offer.
  • We employ over 1,000 staff. Of these, 650 are salaried - employed on a full time or part time basis. We also employ around 360 part time variable hours staff, about half of which are teaching staff employed on a sessional basis.
