Cologne International School

Cologne International School is a private, co-educational, IB-accredited international school for children aged 3-18.

Cologne International School was founded in 2007 as a multicultural, secular, interdisciplinary and inclusive school serving the international as well as the local community of Cologne.

In the primary school (grades 1-4) the learning objectives of the North Rhine Westphalian (NRW) and the Cambridge Primary curricula are integrated into the lesson plans, which are based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

Pupils of the bilingual grammar school (grades 5-12) continue with the NRW curriculum and work towards receiving their Abitur.

The IB and Cambridge curricula are continued in the international school (grades 5-12), where the language of instruction is English and pupils have at least five hours of German per week. Pupils finish the IB PYP in the fifth grade before moving onto the University of Cambridge Secondary I and II programmes, culminating in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in year 10. In years 11 and 12 pupils switch back to the IB Diploma Programme.

Music, theatre, art and sport play important roles in the school’s curricular programme and are also integrated into a wide range of extracurricular activities, which include arts and handicrafts, competitive sports, music ensembles and language lessons.
