About the role

The City Academy Hackney is looking to appoint a qualified Senior Science Technician for an immediate start. The post holder will work within a large and successful Science department, in well-equipped laboratories, managing one other Science Technician. The contract covers term time plus two weeks.

The role will involve:

  • Planning work schedules and science projects in liaison with teaching staff and, where applicable, assisting with coursework, delivery of lessons and assessments
  • Managing the preparation of materials, solutions and specimens and coordinating the assembly of apparatus for demonstration, practical work and examinations, adapting to meet the changing needs of the curriculum
  • Ensuring high standards of health and safety and regulatory compliance for the use, storage, maintenance and disposal of materials, chemicals and equipment
  • Participating in the recruitment, training and supervision of a Science Technician
  • Managing a departmental budget with the support of the Subject Leader: Science.


About you

To apply you will have a genuine enthusiasm for Science and the ability to work flexibly and creatively to support our students’ success. You will:

  •  be qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 in a relevant laboratory technical skills course (e.g. LATA), or equivalent qualification
  • have solid knowledge of health and safety and be familiar with handling scientific equipment and materials
  •  have experience of working in an education setting
  •  possess excellent organisational skills
  •  be able to communicate effectively with staff and students and provide professional advice and assistance.
