The curriculum resources quango Oak National Academy has revealed its curriculum partners for nine more subjects as it works towards completing the entire national curriculum by autumn 2025.

The second tranche of subject resources - for art and design, computing, design and technology, PE, religious education, modern foreign languages, music, relationships and health education, and citizenship - will be rolled out by Oak from September 2024.

The new curriculum partners include the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD), the Cam Academy Trust and Ormiston Academies Trust.

Curriculum partners were able bid for the subject lots and the total value is £7.05 million.

The government quango has also secured curriculum partners for primary music and secondary geography after it said the bids received in the previous tender process did not meet the “high-quality bar”.

Oak’s curriculum partners for its first tranche of subjects were announced in March last year, alongside subject expert groups, including Ofsted subject leads.

However, Oak said today that the subject expert groups for today’s tranche of subjects were yet to be recruited.

The curriculum sequences and the first units in the subjects announced today will be available on the Oak platform from the autumn term of 2024, with full curriculum packages released by autumn 2025.

Oak National Academy, which became a government arm’s length body in 2022, has been criticised by heads for potentially driving other resources providers out of the market and some say that it has not been sufficiently useful to teachers.

But Matt Hood, chief executive of Oak National Academy, said today that feedback for the first tranche of subject resources “suggests they are both respected and popular”.

“Oak is, at its heart, a collaboration of teachers and experts sharing their knowledge to help their peers. This powerful partnership announced today ensures Oak will continue to provide schools and teachers with high-quality resources into the future,” he said.
