About
The British Library is the UK’s national library and one of the world's greatest research libraries, with collections containing over 150 million items and representing every age of written civilisation and every aspect of human thought. The British Library’s Learning policy is to support formal and informal learning in the UK for people of all ages, focusing particularly on developing skills for learning in key subject areas, source-based learning, research skills and information literacy, as well as on promoting a sense of wonder and excitement in the collections and world cultures they represent. Approximately 15,000 young people per year participate in our Learning programmes at the Library, using gallery visits and workshop activities to develop creative thinking, visual and verbal literacy and research skills. Online, the Library engages with students through a range of interactives and over 2,000 pages of content, receiving 1.2 million unique visitors per year.
