Plan works in nearly 50 countries with some of the world's poorest children, in communities where one out of five children die before the age of five, and the ones that survive often go hungry and have little chance of learning to read and write. In 50 developing countries Plan employs educationalists who work with the local Ministries of Education. Our 8000 local staff supports schools, teachers, parents and children in 24000 local communities to develop and implement school improvement plans. They can do this because of the support of their local community volunteers, who organise the community to put children’s interest at the heart of their development.
