KS3 drama scheme of work focused on Theatrical Style and Dramatic Form including the following styles: Melodrama, Pantomime, Butoh and Clowning. The 5th lesson is an assessment preparation lesson where students pick their favourite style and perform according to an assessment brief and a title given to all styles. A planning worksheet to help students focus their ideas about the genre, form, style and structure of their devised performance for component 1.

This engaging, in-depth lesson enables students to understand how Shakespeare uses a range of dramatic devices for effect within ‘Much Ado about Nothing.’ In particular, the lesson focuses upon the dramatic irony and tension used to build the themes of confusion and deception. A close analysis of Act II Scene I: The Masquerade Ball, is included, to exemplify the impact of the dramatic devices upon Shakespearean audiences. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through: - Defining and exemplifying the key dramatic devices; - Relating key dramatic devices to the themes of confusion and deception; - Reading and comprehending the predominant plot events in Act II Scene I. - Completing an essay style response in which they consider how dramatic devices help to create Shakespeare's intended effects upon audiences. - Peer assessing each other's learning attempts. Dramatic Irony in Shakespeare explained with a model of the Globe Theatre. Catherine Paver, English Tutor, made the mini theatre to bring Shakespeare to life for GCSE students and A Level students. This may be something that has happened, is happening or will happen in the future. Heavens The roof over the Globe stage, painted with stars, moons, and signs of the zodiac. It might be used for graveyard scenes by Shakespeare’s company, as a tomb or a place from where devils or witches appear.

This introductory set of 3-4 lessons covers an introduction to the KS5 A Level Literature text ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. It includes a contextual background with notes on the author and links to the play, and a comprehensive study of dramatic form (expressionist, naturalist and Williams’ ‘Plastic’ theatre styles). A great way into the study of this play from an analytical viewpoint.
