Who was the greatest Tudor monarch?

(0)
This KS3 topic covers a single lesson and introduces the course on The Tudors by providing students with a complete overview of the monarchs. It’s simple but effective and I’ve had fantastic justified reasons from students when I’ve used it. Aims and Objectives: To know the Tudor family tree and the order in which they reigned. To know a few basic facts about each of the Tudor monarchs. To compare their reigns and make a judgement on who was the greatest Tudor monarch. The starter focuses on the family tree and establishes the order and reasons for reigns. We then work through each of the monarchs, whilst students rank them on a continuum from worst to best. I’ve always made them note down two reasons for each but the information sheet could equally be adapted into cards for them to order. Students are then asked to make an independent judgement on which monarch was the greatest and we discuss the choices at the end.

Hook starter: As pupils enter the room the presentation will display an autonomously moving spot light to reveal a picture clue about the lesson. Learning Intention and differentiated outcomes (SMSC). Starter: Pupils' will discuss what qualities a good leader should hold before watching a short video clip inquiry into the leading figures of WWII: Churchill Stalin Hitler Roosevelt. Pupils' will then circulate the room studying the individual leaders, their background and specifically their leadership qualities during WWII. In groups pupils then build a silent conversation to debate, discuss, compare and contrast the four leaders. Pupil's then consolidate their views regarding the best leader answering a structured 8 mark exam style question. If time I then ask my pupils to peer assess with WW / EBI. All videos links are provided along with instructions and advice in the description of the presentation. Peep sheet and vocabulary builder have been included for differentiation. Many thanks

Tudor Monarchs Differentiated 4 times

I made this for an SEN group. It is effectively the same task differentiated 4 times. Two are ‘access’ or slightly easier, and two versions are slightly more ‘challenging’. This worked well where I had a range of abilities within one group so could give them all the same task and learning aim but a different version of the sheet to stretch/support as needed. Works well as a starter or recap and would be good for cover lessons as well as an easy go to task. To extend they could research more about the Kings and Queens, work out how long they were on the throne for and find out about Lady Jane Grey and why her ‘reign’ was so short.

Was Edward VI a successful monarch?

Was Edward VI a successful monarch? An activity designed to start with a good hook with Edward VI trying to be exactly like his father through to some good skills; sorting, making judgements, assessing the importance/usefulness of evidence and structuring written responses. There's also some scope for mini role play. Easily adaptable to go across two lessons if time constraints apply. Worked well with Year 7 and Year 8. Source pack can easily be adapted further although there is scope for choice and differing activities. With lower ability classes remove some of the harder sources.
