Second in a five-book series which is designed for children who need extra support and a small steps approach and which complements any phonics programme. Book 2 covers consonant-vowel-consonant words and helps pupils to learn about blending and segmenting. The clear layout and instructions enable independent working, and there is plenty of practice at each stage, making the sheets useful for literacy intervention. Each book has over 100 worksheets, is suitable for a wide age-range and is ideal for homework. 4 other books available. Previously sold through Easylearn.
This isn’t just one phonics screening check, or two…or three. This resource draws on a bank of over 1000 (editable) words to randomly generate 1000s of checks at just the push of a button. Answer sheets and pupil cards are randomly generated and then all you have to do is print and go!
For each check, 40 words are generated (20 real words and 20 pseudo words) in line with the national checks and should be carried out in exactly the same way using the corresponding pupil cards.
Also included is a colour coded tracking sheet to easily track pupils across the academic year. Enter names, enter scores and the spreadsheet will do the rest and calculate a class average,
These resources are great to prepare pupils for the phonics screening check and to track pupils progress throughout the year.
This pair of fonts (Soundbuttondots & Soundbuttondashes) allow you to add dots or dashes to your writing to represent sound buttons underneath single sounds, digraphs and trigraphs. There are even special characters included to replicate the sound buttons needed to show the connection between split digraphs.
Full disclosure - this is not a perfect ‘does the job for you without you having to think’ kind of font. I don’t have the technology to make the fonts do ligatures and automatically underline digraphs and trigraphs, but I have tried to make it as seamless and easy as I can. By switching between the two fonts, you can choose which letters have dots underneath and which have dashes (the spacing on the dashed letters is already condensed so the dashes form a continuous line), and you can insert special characters (or use the corresponding symbols) to add arrows for split digraphs. WATCH THE VIDEO TO SEE HOW, plus full written instructions included in the pack.
To my mind, this font certainly beats printing out a regular copy of work and manually adding all the sound buttons in a black pen, or trying to add dot and dash clipart underneath! We’ve all been there!

A valuable tool for practising phonics and dictation skills, ahead of the new specifications. This resource contains 4 sections. The first section is a grid containing common French phonics and their graphemes, with several examples of words which contain them. This can be printed and laminated for classroom display use. There is also a one page version that can be copied and stuck in students books.
There is a ‘mini dictees’ version, with 2 or 3 short sentences to be completed as dictations, focusing on one phonic at a time. This then progresses to ‘midi-dictees’ which have longer translation exercises encompassing 3 or 4 of the phonics together.
Finally, there is a 20 question choose the correct spelling exercise.
A very comprehensive illustrated French phonics display, divided in vowel sounds, nasal sounds and consonants. 20 PPT slides including one sound per slide/page and a title page. Great resource to support the teaching of phonics in everyday lessons.
Phonics are one useful aspect in learning to read. Quick recall will help children become more fluent readers, but reading is about meaning making not just decoding. Use thoughtfully.

I was finding that my children were struggling with the concept of the phonics booklets for the year 1 test. I therefore created a set of 8 booklets for the children to use as practice for the real thing! They have loved the booklets and enjoyed challenging themselves as there are some tricky words in there. I have also included in some of them year 1 common exception words.
A phonic activity based on 'buying' pictures or whole cvc words with alphabet coins. Coins, two pictures for each initial sound, and a 'shop' game board template are included. Could be use as a group game or an independent activity to reinforce phonic knowledge.
I use these plans for my Nursery/ Reception class.
It can also be used by KS1 EAL groups. It is a mixture of Jolly Phonics, RWI and Letters & Sounds.
It is easy to use. Feel free to adapt to your needs.
