I like to use the book 'One is a snail Ten is a Crab&' as there are many ways to promote maths within it. I created this sheet of animals so pupils can create a given number using animal legs. This can be differentiated through simple addition or creating numbers through multiplication.

We used the first sheet to collect data on which flavour was each pupil's favourite (After tasting crisps). Then we converted the information into a bar graph using the small pictures of crisps. The final lesson was comparing results and answering questions using the data. A very popular lesson.

I printed and laminated these for each child and used them as a starter to the lesson. Lower ability can use cubes, placing them on each planet to match the given sum. Next step, they can draw spots with a wipe board pen. We added actions for adding and equals.
