Unit taken from Leicester City SACRE RE Syllabus for KS1 on Who celebrates what and why? This unit is in two halves and only Easter is covered in these lessons. PowerPoint lesson plan, alongside activity resources. Set of 4 lessons have been designed for a mixed class of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Easily amended to suit the needs of any KS1 class. Board game based on Trivial Pursuit. 4 players and 4 subject areas (Geography, Maths, Fun and History). Most questions themed around Brazil and the 2014 World Cup, but some based on older tournaments and general football knowledge. Lots of scope for tailoring questions to different age/abilities.

Powerpoint presentation on how to Observe children in the Early Years. Designed mainly for classroom assistants, but could be tweaked to present to parents and other staff at school. Additional word document case study. Suggest staff go through the training, then look at any observations they have already completed, as well as complete a joint/paired observation, and then discuss what is exactly required.

Powerpoint presentation based on Phases 1-3 of Letters and Sounds for parents.

An updated version of the vowel digraphs/trigraphs learnt in Phonics sessions. I have now made these into books to be used at home by parents and pupils. Each set of same sounding phonemes are grouped together in the same colour, to aid verbalisation. I hope these are of use!

We designed our own characters, looking at recounts, character descriptions and then moved onto a simple story and made it into a comic strip. Our superheroes focused on the good qualities they could have, and what human values (love, peace, truth, non-violence and right conduct) they display.

Pet cards and skin texture boards. Children to sort the cards onto the correct board, depending on which skin type they have. Can provoke discussion around why animals have certain skins (temperature regulation, protection, sensory needs). Could also introduce camouflage.

A PowerPoint written for Reception to cover the Mesozoic era - triassic, jurassic and cretaceous periods. Looking at basic evolution of animals and the changes in the landscape.

Non-fiction book on (pet) rabbits. Designed either to be viewed on the interactive whiteboard or printed and made into a book for shared reading sessions. Could be used as a topic introduction or independent reading.

A writing frame/book for researching and writing about a country. Includes space for illustrations/sticking in pictures and space to write basic information on the country (currency, continent, capital city, language spoken)

Pictorial recipe, pictorial sequencing instructions and sequencing pictures. Planning included.

A powerpoint designed to be used in assembly or in class for PSHE/PSED. Discussion point on what stealing is, to consider the consequences of stealing, and think of others’ feelings.

PowerPoint made as an intro to talking about all the different roles a mum has (cook, cleaner, nurse, taxi driver...)

To be used alongside a practical sound hunt, listening to sounds in the environment. Using sound vocabulary, such as quiet and loud, other words can easily be substituted. A short song/rhyme has been included at the end, to recap that sounds are heard by the ears, one of the 5 senses.

Game board (to be enlarged to A3) and animal picture and word cards. To be cut and laminated. Children can match the picture/word card to the board in alphabet order. Note that 'X&' is fox (the x is underlined to help) Hope this resource is useful; please rate it if so xx

A fire-fighter themed board game with subtraction question cards to answer. The object of the game is to race to put out the fire and get back to the fire station.

Simple 4x4 grids with columns labelled A to D and rows labelled 1 to 4. Images of superheroes, 2D shapes, dinosaurs and Mickey Mouse characters to find the grid co-ordinates for. Children to remember to write the x-axis first and then the y-axis. The first two grids are very simple with 4 image co-ordinates to record, the next two have either 6 or 9 co-ordinates to record.

An assembly PowerPoint based on FIFA's World Cup website to introduce the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Cover a small amount on the country, as well as Brazilian football past, qualifying teams, the 2014 Brazil kit, and World Cup mascots. Ending with a short video.

A short PowerPoint to introduce comic strips to children. Looking at the different features such as caption boxes, speech bubbles, thought bubbles, action words. Links well with the topic of Superheroes.
