This collection of introductory resources enable students to explore some basic Shakespearean language. There is the opportunity to develop awareness of some Shakespearean lexis through the matching activity (glossary can be used alongside to differentiate) and use them in their own creative disagreement using insults; I have used this to springboard into a piece of drama from the scripts they draft - the students love it!! Peer assessment grid included to focus their work. There is also a word search starter resource to open their eyes to the breadth of the playwright's works. This leads quite nicely into biographical work and research activities.

Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet (general resources)

The first resource is an introductory activity which asks the students to use the prologue and their prior knowledge of the play to design their own front for a copy of the text. The wordsearch asks the students to identify key words from the play and use them to structure a plot prediction. R-J-sequence does what it says on the tin - students should put the plot fragments in the correct order. The final two resources go together. Students can use the character info, once they have matched the text to its correct character, to design a character diagram on the 'households' structure. A good visual revision aid to reinforce who's who!
