A literacy unit linked to mountains topic. This unit helps chn to create a recount in a narrative form of a mountain climbers experiences. It builds over two weeks to include role play and word / sentence generation exercises using stimulus such as photographs and videos. I devised this programme during a summer holiday after feeling very dissatisfied with guidance on how to lead quality guided reading sessions. I also saw the necessity to gain evidence that was independent and therefore I took ideas from many different schemes and devised my own. This fun, fact finding mission encourages children to find facts and write in an interesting and compelling manner. They will learn vital facts about the man who discovered the tomb and what those findings told the world about the ancient civilisation and indeed Tutankhamen/Tutankhamun himself.
