Memorisation Skills Worksheet

(4)
A memorisation skills worksheet for use with beginners in German (year 7 or 8). Can be easily adapted to different content (this version has ‘essen’ and food as subject). Suggestion: use in conjunction with a ticklist of different vocab learning methods that can be revisited at regualr intervals. See one of the CILT Pathfinder books for an excellent example: Harris, V. & Snow, D. (2004). Doing it for themselves: focus on learning strategies and vocabulary building. London: CILT.)

Christmas Running Dictation

(3)
This is a Christmas-themed running dictation that uses the French Christmas song 'Vive le vent&'. It has been successfully done with Year 9s and top-set Year 8s. Pupils work in groups of 3-5 to reproduce the text that you have placed around the room. One person from each team can go the text, memorise a bit, then go back to their team to dictate what they have memorised. (I played the song at the end of the lesson, displaying the lyrics on the board. It is to the tune of Jingle Bells. The song is available on lots of websites). Enjoy!
