Grade 1 music theory

(52)
Based on the ABRSM grade 1 syllabus, this is a ppt and workbook to guide students through grade 1 music theory. There are some worksheets I intend to include from other resources (named on the ppt) that are not included here. Also the practice exercises mentioned at the end of the booklet are from the ABRSM grade 1 theory book and the test is the ABRSM grade 1 test.

Christmas Ukulele

I put this together fairly quickly for classroom use during the run up to Christmas. My guys are beginners and our ukes have red, yellow and green dots on them for the C, F and G chords. May not be suitable to accomplished ukulele-ists! Enjoy it for what it is, a nice light-hearted Christmas music lesson.

Reggae, Three Little Birds, Ukulele

The Reggae and slavery document is just for info, something that may want to be discussed with a class. Otherwise, this is a simple presentation on Reggae, the musical devices, history and religion associated with it and instruction on playing Three Little Birds on the ukulele. I can't upload Sibelius files to TES but I also have melody parts for instrumentalists. Please message me for them.

Figuring out angles missing internal angles in triangles, circles and four sided shapes. This was made for a low ability level 2-4 group. The slides with white backgrounds were printed and students worked in groups with 15 mins per shape.

Resources for developing class or group ensemble using Uptown Funk. I'm using this as a year 8 intro to Musical Futures which we do in year 9. Students pick some options in year 9. I print the ppt slides for keyboard, bass, uke etc and set up a practice room for each instrument. They independently learn the parts in groups from the help sheets. Then they come together as a class. I see y8 once a fortnight for 100 mins which is why there are 3 lessons for the term. You may wish to bulk out more if you teach once a week or more. Take or leave the theory. I only have it with the scheme because we start grade 1 theory in year 9 and again, trying to prep students for if they pick us as an option. I adapted the booklet from downloading it from TES a while ago. Wish I could remember who from because it's brilliant. Please use and adapt as required and enjoy. Our kids are loving it.

Major and Minor Piano Triads

2 student resources for deciphering what notes to play when presented with something like Dbm. Good for independent learning. Also now added piano notation for these chords. They are on a sibelius file.

Beatles using Sibelius

Designed as in intro to Sibelius in year 9 . Students create their own backing track to a Beatles song. I have a Beatles piano book (not included in the resources I'm afraid to say) and the students choose one of the songs to work on. They have to copy the sheet music into Sibelius to create their own backing track, then give a performance using any instrument other than piano. We also work on ABRSM theory during year 9 which is what the ppt is referring to when it says theory. This is a very adaptable resource to be whatever you want it to be. Enjoy!
