Gamelan lesson

There's a great virtual gamelan app for ipad or iphone if you need other instruments. I used it for the big gong, played at the end of each phrase. Pupils can explore Indonesia with Google Earth, or Maps, watch a great video on YouTube of an authentic gamelan orchestra and learn the piece Lancaran Cobowo. If you don&'t own a gamelan - metallaphones, xylophones, bells, pots, and djembes are all good.

Composing motifs with Angry Birds animation!

Pupils can create their own Angry Bird motif(s) using the PDF worksheet. Teacher demonstrates a little motif using one of the scales. Incorporate pitch, tempo, dynamics etc. Pupils can play their motif along with page 3 of the powerpoint where angry birds fly around. Perhaps have a competition as to who composes the best motif.
