We work on a two week timetable and have one literacy lesson at the beginning of this two week timetable. The pupils complete the homework and each lesson they will complete a spelling test and then spend time peer marking the completed homework and consolidating the skills they are still struggling with from a variety of worksheets - upload to follow. We are using this with KS3 and some lower ability KS4 to consolidate what they should already know from KS2. Feel free to use / edit.

This is the third part of the literacy packs I have been creating for our KS3 groups and some are quite specific to the area we work in. This is the second part of the literacy guide and is being used at KS3 and with some LA KS4. It includes some work on the following topics: - plural and singular - homophones - past, present, future tense. Each section is formatted the same with a spelling test, dictionary and vocabulary work and comprehension - some include extended writing.

Here is the next installment of the literacy pack with some more skills for moving into GCSE years. This is the 4th installment of the literacy pack that I have been creating termly for our KS3 pupils and some KS4 LA pupils. It looks at revisiting the idea of sentence structure and the effect of different types of sentences. It also addresses some ideas behind metalanguage and using this to understand feedback and improve work. The second section looks at literally and figuratively. Briefly exploring the world of idioms and how we can use this figurative language to unpick analysis. I have also included a section on how to write a PEARL paragraph - some may use PEE and PEA. Point, Evidence, Analysis, Reader Response and Link / Language (choosing a secondary quote or linking it to social and historical context). There are sections from Harry potter and Alice in Wonderland for comprehension and analysis. I have also included the next round of alphabet synonyms.

This is a reading log for pupils in year 7 and 8 at our school but can be used more widely. It helps to monitor pupils' reading outside of the classroom. You get a signature for every time you read 15 minutes or more. There are stckers / stamps collected and a prize given to the form group that get the most stickers collectively. There are also additional tasks to be completed to encourage comprehension and a love of reading.

This is a short literacy pack focusing on key skills that students will need to form basic sentences. This particular pack looks at the following: - Looking at ambitious vocabulary from your reading book - What is a prefix and common prefixes - What is a suffix and common suffixes - Normal Verbs - Non-continuous verbs - Mixed verbs - Comprehension on an extract from Itch by Simon Mayo All sections have an explanation and a task to complete. There is a checklist at the beginning of the booklet and a consolidation at the end. The booklet is coloured and uses images and colour coding to help students remember the techniques. A5 Revision Cards - GCSE Literature texts To try and engage year 11 and 10 with revision I have created playing cards for each of the texts we are studying. These may not be the texts you are studying but they may be a useful framework (you would only need to replace the names / themes on each card). The bundle includes the following: Spades - The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Spades - A Christmas Carol Clubs (plus 2 jokers) - Poetry (AQA Anthology Power and Conflict) Diamonds - An Inspector Calls Hearts - Romeo and Juliet There are 2 sets of Spades as we study two different texts based on ability at out school. If you study other texts / poetry you can edit them easily in PowerPoint. On the play/novel cards you have the following boxes: - Character - What do we need to know (bullet points) - Key quotes (4 boxes) - AO3 - Links to context - Writer's intentions On the poetry ones you have the following boxes: - What is the poem about? - Key theme and quote linked to the theme (4 boxes) - What do we know about context? - What other poems does this link to? I print mine A5 and this is the way they are set out in the document or they will not match up on the printer correctly back and front. To do this you need to print them duplex (flip on the short side) and on the layout you need to choose print 2 to a page, plural ('multi-up plural' on some computers) - this way you will get 2 A5 cards per page on the front and the back. I have tried to match the characters with cards that will help the students remember them, for example, King of Hearts is Romeo and 2 of Diamonds is Eva Smith (to show poverty). This is a booklet to compliment a SOW on Gothic Horror (ours is on Victorian monsters). In the booklet there are a list of generic questions that students can answer as a starter activity on each extract. There are 12 extracts in total from novels / short stories / poems. In each extract challenging vocabulary has been underlined and at the end of the extract there is a short glossary, in alphabetical order, for the students to use. We are going to use them with year 8 but they can be used in any year group to begin to prepare the students for their GCSEs in English Language (unseen texts) and Literature (unseen poetry). There are two versions one in black and white and one in colour. They are formatted in PowerPoint so they can be edited if necessary.
