A resource that I have used with my year 11 business group in terms of revision and expanding their answers. I wrote the case study as I couldn’t find any suitable resources for the Unit 2 WJEC.
I've used this as a research task for a cover lesson. Gets them thinking, and creates some good discussion points. They can add what laws they would add to prevent such acts.
A worksheet which I printed on A3 paper as a task for year 10/11 revision of the 4 p’s. I gave them a product which they then had to analyse. Includes the product life cycle, extension strategies and packaging. I then linked this to Pricing and promotion of their product in further lessons.
A quick task sheet which could form the basis of an organisational structures lesson. Gives an example of a heirarchical structure, with roles and a set of 5 questions.
Good for cover, or to be jazzed up for a lesson.
A short finance case study based on a small corner shop. A revenue starter, and then questions around finance. The last page includes a break even chart.
This is ideal for a cover lesson, provided you have access to ICT facilities. An interactive task where students have to create their own map in MyMaps. The link to the Nike interactive map is full of information about the company. There are a series of questions to be answered. I often get students to put this together as a little project. Could be a collaboration project.
A quick task, which I built a lesson around (based on revenue, costs and profit) - probably 15 mins.
Created good elements for discussion, and they could peer mark quite easily.
A short task to consolidate methods of motivating staff. Each employee has a short profile explaining why they feel unmotivated. The learmers then have to say how they would motivate each employee.
A quick worksheet to consolidate learning about:
The Consumer Rights Act
The Food and Safety Act
Environmental legislation
Employment Law
Health and Safety at Work Act
Good for a cover lesson if they have access to a PC.
I printed this in A3.
A work sheet around the topic of business growth.
Benefits of a small business
Economies of scale
Advantages/dis advantages
How is the size of the business measured?
A nice single hour task about stakeholders, and the impact the liquidation of Thomas Cook will have on them. My year 10 group did this in pair and created a good informative display out of it.
A revision document for GCSE Business. It covers:
Sole Traders
Partnerships
LTD
PLC
Charities & Co-op’s
Public/Private sectors
SMART objectives
Stakeholder
Shareholder
The pro’s and con’s of Job, Batch and Flow Production. Learners were able to complete the tasks independently, and it allowed for some good class discussions. Used for year 11 WJEC Business. The video in the PowerPoint does not belong to me! Please note: No starters or plenaries as this was a follow on lesson.
Very simple and straight forward cover lesson where learners have the opportunity to plan their perfect summer.
I used this for a very low ability group, however it could be adapted.
Note: The first task includes my local area - you would need to change it to suit you.
I use this for year 10 on their very first lesson in September. Some group/pair work gets them discussing good concepts.
Please note: This may not last a whole hour. I do new book covers and quick overview of the course at the start , then this afterwards.
A nice little check sheet that overviews a series of 6(ish) lessons. Please note - this is only the overview checklist not the actual lesson resources themselves, HOWEVER, it is useful for cover work or to build in to a series of lessons. Learners were quite able to work independantly throught tasks 1-3, befire we taught the theory of finance. I have used it with year 10 to add a little more realism in to the finance unit (we learn about a particular topic then apply it to our own event company). I’ve got a rather ‘bouncy’ class that this has been brilliant for.
