With this resource, I have tried to bring together lots of different SPaG lessons for the year 5/6 curriculum. Many of these have been done more creatively but there are also tick box activities for the children to complete.
I have put together some objectives for your greater depth readers to achieve during reading lessons.
Hopefully it gives teachers some ideas for really pushing their greater depth children too!

In this file, you will find 11 weeks of reading lessons for the ILLUSTRATED version of the story ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ Please note that the pages shown are in line with the illustrated version so will need to be tweeked for the paperback.
This is ideal for whole class reading lessons based around the story. The lessons go up to chapter The Mirror of Erised and include 3/4 lessons per week. They also include an extension question to push your higher ability children.
Ideally, these questions are suited for year 4 and 5, but could be used for a lower year 6 cohort.
The children have loved this unit and have been very engaged - a good variety of question style and activities.

An excel grid you can use to track the speed of reading across your KS2 classes.
Conditionally formatted so that it shows whether your children are working in red (WB), yellow (WTS) or green (EXS+).
Enough lines for 3 form entry, but if you need more, just message me for an adaptation.
An activity based around reminding children how to use commas.
-Print and laminate the base
-Print and chop up the pictures and add them (folded up) to a basket
-Find a pencil or a pen to be the spinner
-Teach the lesson (follow smartboard slides and get children to do their own examples for each one)
-One base and spinner per table; get the chn to take it in turns spinning the spinner
-One child collects a picture from the basket to share with the table
-Whichever option the spinner lands on, they need to write a sentence including a comma for that reason based on the picture.
-They then need to choose their favourite sentence from around the table and add it to a big piece of paper (this part is optional)
Great for discussions and embedding their understanding of commas.

A document which highlights the grammar that could be taught in each year group; it builds upon each term and ensures children are secure before moving on.
There is also an idea about weekly writing challenges to embed this which you would teach separately from your normal English work - a standalone grammar lesson.

This is the first 4 lessons of a new resource I am writing; the aim is to give the children these lessons as a booklet. Each lesson will last around 30 minutes. You can also follow the smartboard too. These lessons are adaptable and you may want to change them for your class.
Please bear in mind that I am currently creating a whole year resource and this is just two weeks worth (2 x 30 minutes lesson).
