First half term focusses on Celebrations in the generic sense looking at celebrations in different cultures and religions The Second half term looks at the celebration of the Nativity story particularly looking at the journey

An assembly script that my year 4 class performed on poetry. The whole script is written in rhyming poetry. It covers onomatopoeia, rhyme and alliteration. We also included some poetry the children had written in class to form part of the assembly. The performance lasted about 15 minutes in total but could be extended or shortened by including more or less of their own poetry. The poems my class produced are included in this bundle. Children were given two illustrations to create their poetry from. They worked collaboratively to do this.

This assembly was performed to the school and displayed our recent work on adventure stories in Year 3. We used one child’s work to focus on and act out in parts, as well as aspects from each child’s story. We presented the assembly in the form of a ready steady cook type show with the title ‘Baking stories for beginners’ The children wore chefs whites and chefs hats made from a cylinder of card and tissue paper.

This resource is intended for UKS2. The units are intended to be taught with children sitting in mixed ability pairs. Talking and class discussion form a large part of the unit with children also writing written responses in the booklets. Guidelines to the teaching of the unit are included and many of the skills come from research in Doug Lemov's Reading Reconsidered. The role of the teacher is to facilitate and extend thinking. The onus is on the pupils learning from each other through discussion and debate.
