Studenst have to place 20 words / expressions into spaces on a diagrammatic flowchart of how electricity is produced. The diagram has all the sources on the left linking into solar cells / turbines / generators via National Grid to homes. Some of the illustrations do not copy that well, but were the best I could find.

This crossword covers every section of the AQA P1a Core Science Unit - heat transfer, energy types, energy transfers, electrical appliances and power / energy costs, and finally electrical energy sources. It was prepared in Puzzlemaker but tidied up in Powerpoint. I did not save the solution but have included a spreadsheet with all the clues and answers listed alphabetically. Printed A4, the squares are just about large enough to enter answers. I printed to A3 and had students working in groups.

There are two documents - a) cards to be printed out so that each student has an alpha, a beta and a gamma card and b - a quiz where every answer is alpha, beta or gamma ( or a combination). The quiz can be played either by all students holding up the cards they think are correct or in groups as a game, when they record how many answers each member of the group has got correct. I couldn't think of any more than 20 questions !
