moral dilemmas

I love this lesson. Has served me well for years. Just get the class to read each dilemma, wind them up with some antagonistic questions, and then unleash awesome whole class debates! Beautiful. As soon as they tire, move onto the next one. Love it.

Trash by Andy Mulligan - some lessons

Lessons ranging from start to finish of the book. All in order. I'm not saying that these are great lessons, 'cos they're not. However, it's better than nothing... Many of the ideas stolen from the other 'Trash' resources already on TES, but made funky with pictures.

Twelfth Night: Powerpoint Lesson on Comedy

Complete Powerpoint resource on Feste and his role in the comedy. The starter activity just has students holding cards to their foreheads and trying to guess just from speech what everyone else is in rank order. Sounds wierd but works well.

Death and the Maiden - Dorfman

A lot of material taken from the Internet and then made into resources for the classroom. Some material taken from websites like cliffnotes or gradesaver. Also a lot of reference made to background context using the film Missing (1980s film, quite slow, but pretty damn good). You need access to a copy of this film in order to use the discussion questions in some of the powerpoints.

Things Fall Apart workbook

A somewhat prosaic but functional workbook. Chapter by chapter, like a workhorse, we manage to get through the novel. Needs development but it’s good place to start if you’re new to teaching the novel.

Pre-read for students reading WSS and who have not read Jane Eyre. Trying to give students a sympathy and background for a character who becomes so central in Jean Rhys's prequel.

This is a little known poem by Bishop, but a beautifully ambiguous one. Honestly don’t know the exact meaning of it… But have found it useful as a segue into some high level poetic vocabulary for my year 13 students.
