Inference Questions Picture Cards

(57)
As an in class task and for homework my Year 6 English Class created cards which have a picture, some literal questions and some inference questions. They had already used some that I had bought and this was a reinforcement activity to help them understand the type of question they might have. I have uploaded it in Word so you can edit and add what you like.

IPC Moving People Poem

(1)
As part of the moving people topic we asked the children to write a poem based on what we had learned. We had talked about the refugee crisis and used some photos as a stimulus. I like to write at the same time as the children so that they can see that I use the same process as them and this was the result. The children were allowed to choose any poetical form that they wanted. The next part of the task was to use Canva to create a poster for display. https://www.canva.com/

Persuasive Writing Activities

I very much believe in modelling a task for the children especially when trying to get them to expand their writing beyond simple facts. Here I have included the tasks which I use with my Year 6 classes. The balloon problem is described in the SMART board resource (word too for those without SMART). I chose Saddam Hussein for my person as I was teaching in the Middle East and he was the evil figure that they all knew about. The second set of resources are discussion/discursive writing and again uses a framework to help the children form their writing. Children struggle to choose their own topic so I like to use my 'Box of Doom' and they get a random topic. The Discursive week as it is slightly different to argument I do a group activity before an individual writing task.

SPaG Ninja - Ten minute revision tests.

(0)
Inspired by Numeracy Ninja (https://www.numeracyninjas.org/) which my class love, using old SPaG tests I created these for them to review topics that they should already know in Year 6. Children are given 10 minutes to complete the 30 questions and then share answers and it gives you a chance to review understanding of the different elements. No answer sheets, sorry I am making them as I do them with the class.
