Are spelling, grammar and punctuation important?

Overall rating 3 out of 53.7 (47 ratings)

Last updated 25 March 2014, created 28 May 2009, viewed 49,749

This is a power point that demonstrates the importance of using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. It’s a fun way to engage students and has a short quiz attached that is a good self-assessment tool.

Can't open this resource which is a shame - getting the same message: Duplicate headers received from server Shame, since it appears to be popular and well-rated. Could admin please sort this out?

This gives me this message when I try to open it: Duplicate headers received from server The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue. It's a shame, as I would love to see it!

What a wonderful way to introduce the conversation with students! Real world examples provide a powerful lesson about the importance of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Bravo! BTW -- Right click on the link and use the "save as" option to download the PowerPoint.

Fascinating! Haven't had time to read it all yet, but it's a great approach to 'why does quality in writing matter' as far as I've got... I know lots of linguists who'd love it!

I do very much appreciate all contributions and although don't use that much I very much value the TES site and plan to add some of my resources soon. I was unable to download the contribution from dognosh a powerpoint resource on spelling, grammar & punctuation for some technical reason but thanks anyway.

this adds a whole spectrum of color to the otherwise b/w issues of grammar. A sweet dose for an introduction to the year, with a pretest written in. THank you!

love the sense of humour which is age appropriate, but what's the point in having quiz answers but no quiz questions!?

I found this resource really helpful. I am a trainee teacher and I was struggling finding something appropriate for one of my classes. Thank you very much! It saved me :)

Really useful resource with A level Lang/Lit groups. Yes, some of the material might not be suited to younger students, but then that's why it has been tagged as appropriate for KS4 and post-16. I have tweaked and changed some images which I don't think would be appropriate for my specific classes - surely the point of resources shared on TES is that you tweak for your own tastes and needs, rather than just directly lifting.

The material in this power point should be considered rated R. I would not show this to students except at the college level.
