Chengde's Summer Palace and Buddhist temples

The city of Chengde is well known for its Summer Palace, built by the Qing Dynasty Emperor Kangxi to escape the summer heat of Beijing. Equally famous are its Buddhist temples, where young lamas are trained to read Buddhist scriptures and perform rituals.
