Whatever else is done the first day at school, at least ten minutes should be given in showing children something they will learn later. They may not understand it all then, but are told they will learn it later. For example, they can be shown an alphabet frieze and told what sound and a word are More… connected with each letter. This example is described here. Then children do not go home disappointed that school is not a place to learn anything.
