To do this activity, I buy a couple of bags of M&M's and then separate them into snaplock bags containing twenty random colours (so that each child has different quantities of each colour). This allows teaching of the concept of fractions being part of a "whole" from the perspective th More…at the whole can be a group of something. Could use Smarties or Skittles instead, although it might mean changing the sheet a bit.
