The first Grab and Group is a game - 2 children take turns to 'grab' a handful of counters, and group them into 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s. Tick the box if they can be grouped without any counters left over. Put a cross if they can't. The winner is the player with the most ticks. Gets chidren thinking about grouping and dividing different amounts. Can be differentiated with more counters; can introduce prime numbers and make it into an investigation. The second Grab and Group with remainders does the same, but this time the chidlren write how many groups they make, and whether there are remainders.

A great resource which was a fantastic way to introduce 'remainders' when dividing. Also led to an interesting exploration of prime numbers. Can be used in pairs or small groups, and also individually. Thank you for sharing!
