The rule only applies when the sound is 'ee'. In some words in your exercise, the sound is not 'ee' at all (science, leisure, ancient). So you can't apply the rule, which, to be helpful, should read, " When the sound is 'ee', 'i' before 'e', except after 'c'. And then you teach the exceptions (weird, protein etc.)
