I cannot remember where I saw it originally but this was an idea that I borrowed/adapted from somewhere! It was a reward system for group/whole class efforts and achievements. I had a large picture of a puppy (clipart enlarged to A4) stuck on the window and an empty dish in front of him. Next to him More… was his Happy-o-meter (a number ladder (0-10) and a separate smiley face). I called him Harry and the children in my class could make him into Happy Harry by collecting happy bones. So if they settled quickly on the carpet, or lined up properly to go out of the classroom, had a good playtime, answered questions in class, etc then I would award happy bones to be put in Harry's dish. With each bone put into the dish, smiley face would move up the ladder so they could see him getting happier. X amount of happy bones = 1 rung up the ladder. Different child would be chosen to stick the bone on the dish with blue tack. With my Y1/Y2 it was enough to get to the top of the ladder but it could easily be developed further. Included is a page of bones (print and laminate 3 or 4 pages worth), 2 different types of dog, a ladder and some smiley faces.

Wonderful resource, thanks for sharing! Really simple but I can see already how effective it will be for our reception and year 1 class.

Brilliant idea. I was just browsing for ideas for my new year 4 class in sept, as an NQT. This looks brill as the class are going to be a challenge, but I know they respond well to praise. Thank you
