A 5-10 minute KS3 starter to revise the solution of simple linear equations in one variable (with and without brackets). The solution to a riddle is given by solving 7 equations. Excellent and engaging idea but reinforces the misconception that in algebra letters have one constant value in relation to the alphabet eg a=1, b=2 etc.
