Life as a Roman Soldier

Overall rating 4 out of 54.7 (19 ratings)

Last updated 04 July 2014, created 29 March 2011, viewed 35,201

A PowerPoint tutorial on the Roman army and two worksheets, one a 'job application' letter for someone applying to join a Roman legion, the other a simple frame to encourage students to describe a Roman soldier's day, based on their previous studies. PowerPoint is quite long (I use it fo More…r online teaching) but could easily be broken up into smaller segments for class teaching. Links to video clips are in the 'notes' area beneath the slides where appropriate. Thanks for looking - please review if you found any of these resources helpful.

Thank you. I am looking forward to using this with my class. I hope this will engage the boys.

I used your application for a Roman soldier with my relief class. They really got into it especially when I interviewed each one for the job as a way of sharing their writing. The boys enjoyed showing their soldier like muscles.

Really good - I'd use this for teaching Book III of the Cambridge Latin Course to Year 10s - a great introduction to the cultural background.
