An excel sheet which will automatically solve a variety of linear equations with any variables. You will need to enable macros for the show/hide buttons to work. This sheet can be used simply to check answers or give questions for starters/plenaries (connect or review in the accelerated learning More…cycle). I have also used it for investigations e.g. if a,b,c and d are 1,2,3 and 4 in any order what is the probability the solution is negative? an integer? What happens if you start with a different set of integers? This resource means you can give students much more open-ended tasks and still easily check their answers (especially useful if you have a headache) The other way I love to use this resource is to put one example up then ask students to decide what would happen to the solution if one of the values changed! This can really help strengthen understanding and can also be used as an APP tool up to level 6 equations…
