Maths KS3: Mental add and subtraction game Got it!

Overall rating 4 out of 54 (1 rating)

Last updated 27 March 2013, created 03 June 2011, viewed 989

From the set of 15 problems, originally created by NRICH, which link to a strand of mathematical processes and applications and to the sub-strands of content. This is a motivating context in which learners can use their mental addition and subtraction skills. However, the real challenge is not the More…calculation but the search for a winning strategy that will always work. This involves conjecturing, refining ideas, generalising and using knowledge of factors and multiples to aid efficiency.

Another interesting and rich problem solving activity from n-rich. This problem requires the pupils to have some knowledge of the following topics: Basic adding and subtracting. The link comes complete with a full set of teacher notes, hints for the pupils and a solutions page, for ease of planning.
