Halves, doubles and quaters (three days).

Children work with a partner to use their fingers to find doubles up to double 10. They then use these doubles to find near doubles, using sticks of cubes as visual support and also the context of buying items with close prices. They fold strips of objects to find halves up to half of 10, discussing finding halves of even and odd numbers. They then investigate which numbers of cubes up to 10 can be halved without cutting a cube in half. The context of party mats and hats from Autumn Teaching Sequence 12 is reused to find quarters of shapes, and children begin to find quarters of numbers of objects by folding.
