Place value - (two days).

Children show given two-digit numbers on bead strings, using the groups of ten to help. The value of each digit is discussed, e.g. comparing 19 with 91. Grouping in tens is used to help quantities of cubes and pennies, ten pennies being swapped for 10p coins. Children are introduced to the associated addition sentences e.g. 25 = 20 + 5, and 20 + 5 = 25.
