Using a calculator (two days).

Children learn to use the clear last entry function on a calculator when adding long lists of numbers; they are encouraged to approximate first and look out for mistakes, and also discuss methods of checking. They are asked to choose how to solve a given set of calculations: mental, mental with jottings or a calculator. Through a game children learn than working out some calculations mentally can be quicker than using a calculator.
