Written methods of multiplication and division (four days).
Children learn to multiply pairs of two-digit numbers together using the grid method to record their steps. They then use chunking to divide any three-digit number by any single-digit number including divisions giving answers of more than 40 and beginning to include those divisions which give answers of more than 100. Children are asked to choose between mental, written and calculator methods for a given range of multiplications and divisions.
