Reasoning (place value, squares and factors) (three days).

Children estimate large numbers, for example the area of newsprint printed or tea drunk each year. They are asked to justify these estimates. Children square numbers up to 12 and multiples of ten up to 50 and begin to use the square root button on the calculator to find square roots of two-digit numbers. Factor trees are used to help children to find the prime factors of numbers up to 100.
