Mental and oral starters for Year 2 Autumn Teaching Sequence 2.

To count to 100 and back. To recognise and identify ‘teen’ numbers. To understand the structure of the teen numbers and other 2-digit numbers. Show a two-digit number (using beads/cubes) by combining groups of ten and one, rather than counting in ones from one. Say the number one more than any two-digit number. To count to 100 and back.

The planning contains 6 different starter activities covering key learning objectives in Year 2. Each activity includes a clear explanation and key questions. The resources needed for each activity are those which would be commonly found in a Year 2 classroom. The ideas could also be easily adapted to cover other learning objectives too.
